The Foundation
Beginning in 1993, responsibility for fund development efforts to support services and programs of Hospice of Wake County was placed in the hands of the Hospice of Wake County Foundation. The Foundation is a publicly-supported, tax-exempt corporation which was created by the board of directors of Hospice of Wake County and granted non-profit status under Section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code.
Funding Hospice Care
For most hospice patients, the cost of care is covered by the hospice Medicare benefit. For some, the principal payment source is Medicaid or private insurance. For those patients who have no means of paying for hospice services, and to offer programs not typically covered by Medicare or insurance, Hospice of Wake County has traditionally turned to the support of the communities it serves. That support has come in the form of memorial gifts and other donations, annual gifts, grants, and patronage of special events.
